Bosch Recipe: Kiwi Grits and Eggs by Tim Read

An American classic cooked in a Kiwi form.

Appliance Used: Bosch Built in Oven and cooktop

2 Bacon Hocks
3 Onions, quartered
4 Garlic cloves, halved
1 sprig of Thyme
1 Litre of Chicken Stock
200g Polenta
50g Butter
4 Eggs
50g Parsley, chopped
Salt and Pepper


  1. (This step can be done the day before if required) Preheat the oven to fan bake 180
    degrees. Combine the bacon hocks, quartered onions, garlic and thyme in a roasting
    dish. Place in the oven for an hour, basting half way through. Remove from the oven
    once cooked and strain the liquid off retaining it for the next step.
  2. Cook the polenta with the stock from the bacon roasting. Add small amounts of water
    if needed, season with salt and butter.
  3. Place the polenta in the roasting tray, top with the bacon hocks, onion, garlic and
    crack the eggs on top. Bake in the oven until the eggs are cooked, season with
    pepper and parsley.
  4. Serve with a fresh green salad.
